Though the marble work of this sculpture is beautiful, there's something about the form that feels dull, and the facial expression feels vacant. ![]() The last is by an artist who helped launch the Baroque period named Bernini (1623–1624).ĭonatello’s first “David” was created when he was a young man in his twenties. The third sculpture is by High Renaissance Artist, Michaelangelo (1501-1504). The first two sculptures were created by an early Italian Renaissance artist named Donatello (1408–14–1440). If we are observant about these changes, we can find truths in those four sculptures that relate to how you and I should communicate to the world. Over that time span the art world changed significantly in ways that impact our culture still to this day. We're going to go all the way back to the end of the Gothic era and take a look at four sculptures that were created within about two hundred years. The path we will take is a bit quirky because we're going to go way back in time, past Pixar and internet sites, past wax museums, and even past cosmetology models.
